This is a special post, friends. Not because this family is one of the most adorable families ever, not because they always plan the cutest sessions, and not because they’ve gone from clients to friends and photographing them is one of our favorite things in the world to do. Although all of those things are true. This is special because they just get it. They get the importance of documenting the parts of their story that matter. The parts that their kids, and their kids’ kids will want to look at over and over again someday. The parts of their story that truly define them and their legacy.

Back in 2012, David did one of the most romantic things ever when he wrote and illustrated a book that he put on the shelf of their favorite bookstore and used it to propose to Minh-Tu. Gah! Then, in 2017, they took their little guy, Wally, back there to recreate their engagement session, but with him included. And NOW, fast forward to the present. . .they have simply outdone themselves.

Their Year in the Life with us started back in 2017. We kicked things off with Wally‘s second birthday party, and normally, we continue to photograph the family every few months, over the course of one year. However, this one ended up getting extended a teensy bit longer, because they had something really special in mind.

They are currently expecting their second child, and they wanted to go back to that special place. . .where it all began, to tell Wally he is going to be a big brother. . .AND to find out the gender of the baby, themselves! How could we say no to that!

So back to the Dusty Bookshelf we went for the third time, this time with another treasured book in hand. They read the book to Wally and he found out the exciting news. And at the very end, they all found out that Wally will have a little brother! 💙

Minh-Tu and David, we don’t know exactly where life will take you, but we know it’s going to be amazing. And we sincerely hope that you will have us along for the ride to keep telling your story as long as we possibly can. Love you guys.
